Dogs at meetings

Dogs are not alcoholics - please don’t bring them to meetings.

We love our dogs! Many are adorable and well-behaved. But they dont belong at meetings.

Please respect the recommendation of the General Service Board of AA Australia by refraining from bringing your dog to meetings.

Council by-laws prohibit animals in public buildings and many of our land-lords have building codes that exclude animals on the premises. They also expect us to abide by our agreements. Not doing so could jeopardize the meeting and affect other meetings near by.

Also, there are AA Members who have a fear dogs as well as some who have allergies. Often there are children present bringing a whole other risk factor.

Bear in mind that insurance does not cover any accident related to the presence of an animal at AA meetings. If something were to happen, the Secretary of the meeting, as well as the dog owner would be responsible for damages.

So please don’t put this burden on your fellow alcoholics. The meetings you attend are so much more worthwhile without the disruption that can be caused by the presence of an animal.

In addition to the above request, we note that AA South Australia abides by the “Dog and Cat Management Act (1995)” and welcome registered service animals to our meetings.
